"Fragility" takes a critical view on how humanity has impacted on the survival of the rhino and other endangered species close to extinction. It portraits the fragile contrast of life and death: On the back of the rhino the visible bones underneath the torn skin symbolise death and extinction, on the front the art-line shows the over-delicate nature of their existence.", designed and painted by Gloria Torres ( Goya Torres Art ), sponsored by Hotel Steyne Manly , as part of the Taronga Wild! Rhinos project organised by Taronga Zoo . Taronga Wild! Rhinos is a Wild in Art event that will bring businesses, artists and schools together to create a spectacular world-class sculpture trail from the Sydney Harbour foreshore through the Blue Mountains to Dubbo and the Central West region of NSW. From February – April 2014 a huge herd of wildly colourful rhino sculptures painted by artists and their small calves decorated by local schools will charge into town as part of a mass public art exhibition to help raise awareness and valuable funds for Taronga’s world leading Black Rhino breeding program and in-situ conservation projects. “They will come”, solo exhibition by Sydney based artist, Mexico born, Goya Torres. This exhibition celebrates the Day of The Dead with a compilation of artwork by Goya Torres, that relates to the core idea behind the this symbolic celebration: to honor the past life of ancestors. Originally from Veracruz, Mexico, Goya Torres felt the necessity to bring together her vision on the popular Day of the Dead, not only by showing artwork that reflects the popular folklore of Mexico, but also its traditions, ancient past, culture and ideology in a contemporary visual language. This exhibition showcases a mix of Goya Torres artwork produced since 2013 and brand new work, from oil, acrylic and spray-paint on canvas and wood, printmaking techniques on paper, to mix paint on a tequila bottle. Also, mexican anthropologist Raquel Duron Perez has been invited to showcase a Day of the Dead typical mexican altar.
Goya Torres, Sydney based / Mexico born visual artist painted two sculptures for the public art trail project Hello Koalas in Port Maqcuarie: "Radiant Heart" sponsored by ABC Mid North Coast and "Starry Soul". In September 2014, the Port Macquarie Hastings region will be populated with a number of large-scale animal sculptures, manufactured in fibreglass and hand painted by celebrity artists, professional artists and community groups. Hello Koalas is a bold, ambitious and imaginative sculpture project, which celebrates one of Australia’s iconic animals – the Koala. Above all, it is designed to generate a sense of fun and surprise for everyone who comes across one of the creatively decorated koalas resting in parkland, lazing by the beach, waiting outside the shops, or playing with school kids. The Hello Koalas project is inspired by the highly successful Larkin With Toads public art project in Hull UK in 2010 and has been conceived by Arts and Health Australia.
