“They will come”, solo exhibition by Sydney based artist, Mexico born, Goya Torres. This exhibition celebrates the Day of The Dead with a compilation of artwork by Goya Torres, that relates to the core idea behind the this symbolic celebration: to honor the past life of ancestors.
Originally from Veracruz, Mexico, Goya Torres felt the necessity to bring together her vision on the popular Day of the Dead, not only by showing artwork that reflects the popular folklore of Mexico, but also its traditions, ancient past, culture and ideology in a contemporary visual language.
This exhibition showcases a mix of Goya Torres artwork produced since 2013 and brand new work, from oil, acrylic and spray-paint on canvas and wood, printmaking techniques on paper, to mix paint on a tequila bottle.
Also, mexican anthropologist Raquel Duron Perez has been invited to showcase a Day of the Dead typical mexican altar. - Black Penny, 648 Bourke St, Surry Hills.
